Shamrock Rovers Academy is delighted to announce the expansion of our Girls Academy.

In the coming weeks we will be increasing the number of teams in our girls’ section with the introduction of U10’s, U12’s U13’s, U14’s, U15’s and U16’s. The Academy are excited to enter two of these teams into the DDSL to compete on a weekly basis. All teams will be coached by newly recruited coaches and will be under the guidance and leadership of our Head of Girls Academy, Tommy Carberry.

Tommy commented “I am delighted with the progress we have made over the last 4 months; we have 8 new coaches, six of which are female and will work across our Girls Academy teams. We will have two teams playing in the DDSL this is a first for the club and I’m really looking forward to this. With the new coaches in place, we are now able to increase the number of squads we have on the girl’s side from five to eight. We also have our ETP programme in association with Coerver Coaching, with 40 girls attending weekly giving us an increase in girl’s participation by 45%. Player development is key to what we are trying to achieve at the club, and it would be great to see some of these players coming through to play for our Women’s Senior Team. Coach development is also a key part of our programme, and we have set aside sessions specifically to work closely with our coaches to help them through their coach education pathway.”

Academy Director Simon Friel commented “The expansion of our girls’ section within the Academy is a great step forward for the Club. There has been a significant amount of work and planning that has gone into us getting to this stage. Tommy had a great enthusiasm to expand the girls’ section and I’m eager to see his endeavours come to fruition over the next couple of weeks. We look forward to welcoming many female footballers to participate in our teams and ETP programme. I’m excited to see how this continues to grow in the future, with young players getting an opportunity to continue to develop their skills over a longer and sustained period of time at Shamrock Rovers Football Club. The future of women’s football at this club is very bright and it will continue to go from strength to strength.”
