Our second league game of the season ended in a 1-1 draw with Dundalk on Monday night. Was the point the most we deserved on the night?
“I think so, maybe it was a bit of frustration when I was speaking after the game. But we’re usually very good at finishing out games but once it’s 1-0, Dundalk always had a chance and anything can happen and that’s what did happen. So it was a frustrating night for us.”
Is it fair to say most teams aren’t firing on all cylinders in the early games of the season and if so, four points from our first two games isn’t a bad return.
“It’s not, early on in the season is always like that. It’s always fairly tight and there’s not much in it and always takes time for teams to get up to speed. So that’s quite normal.”
You handed new signing Tunmise Sobowale his debut on Monday. How did you think he did?
“Tunmise only had trained once with the group. I just wanted to get him involved as soon as possible and for him to get a feel for us. It wasn’t ideal in terms of all the changes to the team and bringing in a new player. But we thought it was important to play him as early as possible. Some of what he did was really good and he’ll only get better and the more he gets used to us and we get more used to Tunmise, it will only get better going forward.”
We travel across the city to Dalymount Park tomorrow for the first big Dublin Derby of the season against Bohemians. Their early season form has been good.
“They’ve started really well with the draw and a couple of wins. It’s a Dublin Derby, sold out and it should be a good game. We’re looking forward to it.”
You’ll have watched Bohemians’ games this season. Is their set up and style similar to 2025 so far?
“You can see little tweaks, but with all the teams, that’s quite normal so early after pre-season with teams trying different things. What hasn’t changed is Bohs have good players. They’re a good team and we will see that tomorrow night so we have to be ready for that.”
John McGovern and Enda Stevens missed Monday night‘s game due to illness. How are they and how are Max Kovalevskis and Rory Gaffney and is anyone else unavailable for tomorrow night?
“John and Enda trained again on Tuesday and are fine. Rory and Max remain out but everyone else is fine.”
