After an almost three week gap since our last league game, a 3-2 win at home to Waterford, what were your main takes from reviewing that game?
“I was happy with the performance, happy with what we did. We knew it would be a difficult game, Waterford have been the form team and we knew all that. But I thought we handled the game really well, in terms of going behind twice and coming back to win. So I thought the players were really good.”
With a prolonged international break, with several players on international duty, training and playing, was it possible to get some in-house games to maintain match sharpness for the run-in for the others?
“We’ve trained hard, but also gave them some time off, we had a few knocks and some were away with the internationals and came back late. So you’re down a bit to low bodies and trying to mind people too, but we’ve experienced this with Europe with the end of the season, knowing we were coming back into group games a few weeks later. So we’ve managed these breaks before and hopefully we’ve managed this one in the right way.”
It’s back to the title run-in as Drogheda United come to Tallaght. We had two scoreless draws away with them and won 4-1 at home in May, which was a fine performance by us. A repeat performance would be great at this stage of the season.
“It would be. It will be a difficult game, we know that and know what Drogheda are. Everyone is playing for something which is really good at this point of the season. So it will be a difficult game but one we’re ready for.”
Danny Mandroiu remains out for the season. Did everyone come back ok from international duty and what’s the latest on Danny Grant, Victor Ozhianvuna?
“We’ve a meeting with the specialist this morning with Danny Grant. He’s been training really well, is up to full speed but the specialist will guide us with that. Victor has another scan next week and we’re hoping he will be available between now and the end of the season.”
