The club can now confirm that the 7 v 7 sized Astro development is well underway at Roadstone creating a new 3,600m² artificial grass surface.
The old small-sided grass pitch will become a 7 v 7 sized Astro to create more access to our growing number of teams requiring training pitches. The shortage of space is particularly acute when the grass pitches are out of bounds due to weather conditions. It will also allow provide an area for specialised goalkeeper training.
It is with financial support, via the weekly club Lotto and the Member’s Club, that funding of circa €115k towards this development alongside a sports capital grant, will make this a reality.
Topsoil has been stripped, and work is underway on the full turnkey project which includes drainage installation, pitch base construction, kerbing, ball stop netting and upgrading the existing floodlights to LED.
Some recent images are here along with a short video at this link to view progress.
We hope to have the pitch ready for play by mid November. This will create a lot more training time for all of our Academy teams.
Thank you for playing your part by supporting the weekly lotto.
