100 YEARS OF ROVERS
Shamrock Rovers is Ireland’s most successful football club. Founded in 1899, the club has won a record 17 league titles, including four in a row from 1984-1987. The club has also lifted the FAI Cup on a record 24 occasions. Shamrock Rovers is a members owned club and is run by a board of directors elected by and from its membership. The club has supplied more players to the Republic of Ireland national football team (62) than any other club. Following the sale of our former home ground Glenmalure Park in Milltown in 1987, the club spent a number of years playing at various grounds before finally moving to our new home in Tallaght. Deeply rooted in the Tallaght community, Shamrock Rovers has teams all the way from Under 8’s to the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division. After winning back to back league titles in 2010 and 2011, Shamrock Rovers became the first Irish club ever to compete in the group stages of a major UEFA tournament (Europa League).
Shamrock Rovers is a members owned club and is run by a board of directors elected by and from its membership. The structure is members based with director involvement in all decisions. This is very important to the club and is central to the philosophy of the club.
Shamrock Rovers is different because it is the fan’s club. The bottom line for Shamrock Rovers is that its strength lies in it’s numbers – the more fans who are members, the stronger the club becomes, and the easier it becomes for Shamrock Rovers to become more successful.
