U20 Result: Rovers 1-2 UCD |
|
Rovers were unlucky against unbeaten league leaders, UCD, in Tallaght on Wednesday evening going down 2-1. Rovers started the stronger and were quickly rewarded with a goal on 11 mins from James Mooney with a super strike from outside the 18 yard line. With much of the first half been played in the UCD half Rovers were unlucky not to be more than one up but a quickly taken free kick caught Rovers on the back foot and we went into the break even at one all. In the second half, Rovers again started the brighter and again much of the play was in the UCD half of the pitch. Rovers' Sean Byrne, Lloyd Massey, James Mooney and Karl Kinear all coming close. On the hour, Rovers brought on Daniel O'Reilly for James Mooney and Karl Tate for Paul O'Brien and later Daragh Hyland for John Malane. Again, the Hoops looked like scoring but it was UCD who got the rub of the green when a deflected ball took it past the Rovers centre half and into the path of a UCD player to make it 2-1 to UCD. Rovers fought hard but just could not find the back of the UCD net and that is how it ended. Rovers have two games remaining in the 2009 FAI under 20 league.
