Rovers bring pre-season football to Tallaght Stadium for the first time with Friday’s friendly game against old Ringsend rivals Shelbourne (KO 8.00pm). Following last Tuesday night’s 4-0 win in a friendly away to Longford Town (see http://www.shamrockrovers.ie/news/latest-news for a match report), Hoops’ boss Michael O’Neill is looking forward to parading his new-look squad in front of home fans. “It was a good workout in Longford and the players are keen to get out on the pitch in Tallaght in front of our own supporters,” he says. “And Shelbourne will provide very strong opposition. “The pre-season has been excellent so far. Our stint at Carton House was very worthwhile as the facilities there are ideal. We just need a few games to get everyone match fit.” The Hoops play Bray Wanderers next Tuesday (Feb 9) at the Carlisle Grounds before heading off to Edinburgh for the final stage of their preparation for the 2010 campaign. “We’ve strengthened the squad and everyone’s eager to get going,” says O’Neill. “Last season was a learning curve for everyone at Rovers and we’re determined to progress. “There’s also European football to look forward to, as we’re playing in the Europa League. It’s a very exciting time for the club and its supporters and we can’t wait for the start of the season.” Admission prices for Friday’s game against Shelbourne are at reduced rates. Adults: €10, children and other concessions: €5. The Shamrock Rovers Store at Tallaght Stadium will be open on Friday until 10.15pm.
