gerobrienh

Ger O'Brien

Player Sponsor : Hoops S.C.

Defender : It took Ger a little while to get going with the Hoops following his arrival at the club in early 2006 as injury disrupted his first couple of weeks with the Hoops. However, he soon settled into what was practically an entire new team as Rovers faced up to life in the First Division. Ger was one of the heroes who brought the league title to Rovers that year. He has been an outstanding performer for the Hoops at right full and was rewarded with the SRFC Player of the Year for 2007 in recognition for his consistency.
Date of birth: 02.07.84

aidanpriceh

Aidan Price

Player Sponsor : Tallaght Hoops

Defender : Having played under Pat Scully at Kilkenny City during 2005, it was no surprise when Aidan followed his former boss to Shamrock Rovers after Scully succeeded Roddy Collins as manager Aidan was outstanding at the centre of defence throughout the title-winning season of 2006 and was voted as the SRFC Player of the Year by the fans. Unfortunately, a metatarsal foot injury picked up in the league game at home to Bray on June 1st last year ruled him out of action for the rest of the season.
Date of birth: 08.12.81

dannyoconnorh

Danny O'Connor

Player Sponsor : Sunlight Windows.

Defender/midfielder : Another experienced player brought to Shamrock Rovers by Pat Scully for the return of the Hoops to the Premier Division in 2007. Dan's versatility as a defender and midfielder proved to be a blessing for Rovers last year, especially at a time when injuries saw the squad had to be boosted by an influx of young players. He scored one league goal during the campaign - in the 2-0 win against Bohs on their own turf at Dalymount and that probably earned him a few brownie points with the Hoops faithful!
Date of birth: 28.09.80

darraghmaguireh

Darragh Maguire (Vice Captain)

Player Sponsor : Jim McLaughlin SC

Defender : Darragh is one of those players that you feel has been around for more years than he actually has been. Certainly, he was always a thorn in the side of Rovers whenever the Hoops played against his previous club St. Patrick's Athletic. Before he joined the Saints, Darragh had been playing for Glenmore Dundrum but he also had a spell in the Irish League with Newry Town. Strong in the air, as well as being good for a goal or two during the season, his acquisition has certainly strengthened the Hoops defence this year.

It didn't take Robbie long to settle into the Under 21s and his performances in the middle of the park impressed Pat Scully enough to earn himself a call up to the first team. He made his first team debut at home to Sligo Rovers in late October Expect to hear lots more about this fine young player during 2008.

He had a loan spell at Kildare County during the first half of the 2007 season but was recalled to take his place on the first team. Unfortunately, a knee injury curtailed his progress as the season came to an end and an operation was necessary Padraig is from Carlow and was the County's Soccer Star of the Year for 2006 and 2007.
