Hoops Line out
An entertaining game in Bray saw the Hoops race into a two goal lead with a fine free-kick from Killian Brennan and a headed goal from Ken Oman. Waters pulled a goal back for the Seasiders early in the 2nd half but Gary McCabes penalty sealed the points with ten minutes remaining.
On a surprisingly mild and calm night by the sea the Hoops started brightly with early crosses by McCabe and Sullivan causing problems. On 6 minutes a corner by McCabe fell for Oman in front of goal but he could only knock the ball over the bar. On 13 minutes a Bray corner caused a scramble in the Hoops area but the ball was cleared.
Bray should have reduced the deficit on 35 minutes when a bizarre incident saw Byrne's shot from close range well saved by Jansson but the ball fell nicely for Houston but he somehow hit the crossbar from close range. The ball came back into play via the crossbar again and Jansson punched tha ball clear. Three minutes later a Byrne header was well saved by Jansson.
Bray looked the livlier at the start of the 2nd half and from a corner Byrne hit the left post with a snap shot from close range after a scramble in the box. In the 55th minute Jansson had to quickly advance from his area to deny Waters as he raced on to a through ball.
The Hoops however got to grips with the game again and Kllduff almost got on the end of Sullivan's long ball on 61 minutes. After 64 minutes a corner from McCabe found the head of Dennehy at the back post but Quigley reacted quickly to push the ball over the bar. Gary Twigg had the ball in the net a minute later after Sives looping shot hit the crossbar but the Linesman flagged him offside.
A good move on 74 minutes saw Finn feed Twigg and he in turn sent Dennehy into the box on the left with a fine ball and the Hoops number 20 shot across Quigley but the ball hit the right-hand post and was cleared.
Rovers saw out the remaining minutes comfortably and sub Aaron Greene almost snatched a goal with three minutes left when he met Dennehy's cross at the back post but Quigley beat away his shot with his feet.
