Hoops Line out
24 Tommy Stewart
Despite dominating possession in the first-half and leading thanks to a Ciaran Kilduff strike the Hoops lost their way in the second-period and goals from Kavanagh and Gorman put Shels in the lead but thankfully a fine Ronan Finn strike 7 minutes from time restored parity.
The game got off to a great start with Craig Sives just nicking the ball off Paddy Kavanagh in the box after only 10 seconds. On three minutes Conor Powell crossed for Kilduff to head on goal but Bennion in the Shels goal saved. On 6 minutes Ronan Finn slipped the ball in for Tommy Stewart on the left-hand side of the box but he just failed to get a shot in.
On 7 minutes a Kilduff header went narrowly wide from another Ronan Finn cross. Rovers forced two corners just before the 10th minute but Bennion saved Colin Hawkins header on goal. The game went flat for a while with Rovers dominating possession and Shels happy to soak up the pressure.
On 24 minutes a counter-attack from Rovers saw Kilduff pick out McCabe on the left and he raced into the box but shot straight at Bennion. McCabe had another shot from the edge of the box a minute later but again Bennion saved.
On 37 minutes Kilduff and Rice combined and the Hoops number six tested Bennion with a low driven shot.
The second-half started with Sives defending Cassidy's fine cross on 48 minutes and a minute later Finn's shot in the box was deflected for a corner.
The Hoops were stunned and Philip Gorman tried his luck from 20 yards out on 55 minutes but Jansson easily saved. Conor Powell delivered a fine cross into the area a minute later but Kilduff couldn't make contact in front of goal. A good move down the right on 72 minutes saw Kilduff knock the ball on to Sullivan in the box but his cross just failed to pick out substitute Greene in front of goal.
Rovers pushed on for a winner and Finns run into the box saw Stewart win a corner but Greene couldn't head McCabes cross on target. Finn again attacked the box on 87 minutes and the ball fell for McCabe but his deflected shot went straight to Bennion.
The Hoops almost lost the game in the second minute of added on time when Kavanagh again breached the Hoops defence on the left and he raced forward and into the box to shoot on goal. Oscar Jansson got a hand to the ball but it wasn't enough to stop it heading into the net but Craig Sives atoned for his earlier mistake to stretch out a leg and clear the ball off the line.
