Pat Flynn..in for the suspended Ken Oman
This Dublin Derby failed to ignite despite a lot of endeavour from both sides however there was a lack of quality in the final third of the pitch. Rovers dominated the second period but couldn't find a way through a resolute Pats defence.
The game started at a good pace with both teams tackling hard although St Pats number 11 Derek Doyle was lucky to stay on the pitch after a lunge on Sullivan on 9 minutes.
Alan Mannus rose to claim a free-kick from Bradley in the 14th minute and ten minutes later had to stretch to take a deep cross from North. In between the Hoops tried to get the ball forward but lacked the incisive pass needed.
Mannus was well placed to save Doyle's overhead kick on 27 minutes and a minute later at the other end a Sheppard cross fell to McCormack outside the area and his volley went just over.
Rovers were guilty of some sloppy passing and Rice had to get back to allow Mannus to claim the ball after Kavanagh almost took advantage.
McCormack tried his luck from long distance again but the ball went over before the Hoops best move of the half saw O'Neill almost set up McCabe with a shot on goal but Pender got a vital touch to clear.
A Pat Flynn cross on 34 minutes needed McMillan to head away just as Murray looked like he would connect with the ball. The home side had a good chance to take the lead on 35 minutes when Murphy's cross was headed on to the back post for Kavanagh to get a touch but Mannus was quick across his line to block for a corner. The resultant kick was then headed off the line by McCabe.
McCabe had a shot blocked in the box and Murphy headed wide for Pats before the half-time whistle.
The Hoops took control of the game in the second-half but not before Mannus had to stretch to take the ball from under his own cross-bar as Kavanagh got a touch to a cross.
On 63 minutes Rovers upped the pressure on the home defence as sub Kavanagh saw his shot blocked in the box. A low cross from sub Dennehy was well defended before a Stevens cross on 65 minutes saw Murray almost make contact but the ball fell for Ronan Finn and his shot from the right went inches wide.
Finn was then set up bu O'Neill but this time he shot straight at Rogers in the Saints goal. Rogers was again called into the action on 69 minutes to punch away a dangerous Stevens cross.
O'Neill's quick free-kick on 71 minutes almost got Sheppard in on goal but although he touched the ball past Rogers it lacked the pace to threaten the Pats goal.
A rare St Pats attack saw McMillan head wide from a Bradley free-kick on 76 minutes. On 84 minutes a Sullivan cross was headed straight at Rogers by Dennehy and a minute later a good move saw McCormack race forward and pass to Sullivan who then found Kavanagh and he crossed for Kilduff but he couldn't direct his effort on goal.
Rovers last chance came three minutes from time when a Sullivan long throw-in saw Kavanagh stretch to block a clearance and the ball flew just past the left-hand post.
