Billy Dennehy...terrific right-footed shot for Rovers fourth goal

The Hoops took all the points from a windswept Drogheda as a brace from Gary Twigg and one each from Kilduff and Dennehy secured the win.

Rovers played against the wind in the first-half and proceeded to ensure the home side never got a foothold in the game.

On 14 mins a long ball from Sullivan saw the Drogs 'keeper clash with Kilduff on the edge of the area and from the resultant free-kick Billy Dennehy saw his shot go just over the bar.

Ronan Finn followed up with a volley over the bar from the edge of the area while at the other end a wind assistance ball into the box saw Alan Mannus gather at the second attempt.

Kilduff couldn't steer Dennehy's corner on target on 21 minutes and McCabe's free-kick from just outside the area tested 'keeper Quirke. Kilduff then flashed a shot across goal.

On 28 mins a Dennehy cross from the left saw Gary Twigg evade the Drogs defence to guide his header past the 'keeper to give the Hoops the lead.

Oman saw his headed goal ruled out for offside before Kilduff miskicked when put through on goal.

A good defensive header from Stevens kept the Drogs at bay as Rovers saw out the remainder of the half.

It was all going to plan for Rovers as just after the restart Finn had a shot blocked in front of goal and then in the 50th minute a Twigg cross fell to McCabe and his shot crashed off the cross-bar for Dennehy to then head onto the post but Kilduff was alert to pounce and score his first league goal.

Six minutes later a Dennehy corner was headed down by Murray and Gary Twigg showed his poacher's instinct to swivel and shoot low into the net from close range.

McCabe shot wide before the homeside had a decent spell and forced Mannus to make a good catch from a dangerous cross on 67 mins.

The icing on the cake came on 73 mins when Pat Sullivan burst into the area on the Rovers right to cross for Billy Dennehy to shoot first time with his right foot to send the ball crashing into the net.

In the last ten minutes Gary McCabe broke into the area but his shot was blocked. Captain Dan Murray headed over the bar on 87 mins before substitute Karl Sheppard ran into the box on the left but his cross for Twigg was blocked by a defender.
