Rovers and Derry played out a scoreless draw in a game of few chances on a calm and dry night on Foyleside.

Rovers had plenty of possession in the first half and Dennehy's good run on 5 mins saw the ball fall for Finn just outside the box but he flashed his shot just wide.

Both sides cancelled each other out in the opening half but when Stevens and McCabe combined in the 23rd minute Stevens saw his shot blocked and O'Neill prodded the rebound over the bar from inside the area.

Lafferty just failed to connect wuth a free-kick from Harkin for the home side on 29 minutes and as the half drew to a close the Candystripes applied some pressure with Oman and Sullivan defending well before Zayed headed just over the bar when well placed inside the area from a corner.

Just before the break O'Neill fed Finn and his ball across the box saw Dennehy skip past a defender but goalkeeper Doherty advanced to claim the ball.

The 2nd half was a little more lively and Finn got his low shot on target just after the break. However the home side upped the tempo and when McGlynn raced into the area on 49 mins his shot was heading on goal but Ken Oman got his head to the ball to deflect for a corner.

In the 53rd minute a Lafferty dipping volley from the edge of the area was heading into the top of the net but Alan Mannus was alert to the danger to tip the ball over the bar.

A Dennehy cross on 57 mins found substitute Kavanagh just inside the box on the left but he curled his shot wide. McClean troubled the Hoops defence down the right and his run on 59 mins saw Deery shoot on goal but Sullivan eventually cleared.

Four mins later Zayed dispossessed Oman and crossed low into the box but McGlynn couldn't make contact. Mannus then punched clear under pressure from Zayed.

Kavanagh and Finn combined on 73 mins to release Stevens down the left but his low cross was cleared. Kilduff did well to set up Kavanagh to cross but Dennehy couldn't get his head to the ball.

On 81 minutes Finn was fouled just outside the area on the right and although Dennehy struck the free-kick well 'keeper Doherty  saved comfortably.

Ken Oman made a fine headed clearance almost on his own line from a corner on 84 mins and the Derry number 6 could only direct the ball over the bar.

Doherty punched away Dennehy's free-kick on 89 mins before saving Turner's low drive. In the last minute of added-on time Pat Sullivan's long throw was glanced goalwards by Oman but Doherty was well placed to claim the ball.
