Enda Stevens
The Hoops and Shelbourne had to contend with poor playing conditions as swirling rain and a heavy pitch made playing football difficult.
The fisrt half was competitive but devoid of goalmouth action. Gary McCabe was lively in midfield and his turn and shot from 25 yards on 20 mins was not far wide.
Billy Dennehy then flashed a shot across goal as Rovers dominated possession without opening up the home defence. Shelbourne opened the scoring when Cassidy's fine whipped in free-kick on the right saw Paisley stoop to head past Mannus and into the corner of the net.
The second-half was a more lively affair with Stephen O'Donnell and Akeem Priestly causing the Reds defence problems. On 60 minutes Turner won a header at the edge of the box to release Kilduff on the right and his shot from an angle forced a decent save from the Shels keeper.
The introduction of Kavanagh saw more quality crosses into the box and Kilduff almost took advantage but his fine header was tipped over on 66 minutes.
Another Kavanagh cross on 71 minutes saw Murray head the ball across goal for Kelly to head on target but the Shels 'keeper was well placed to tip the ball over the bar.
The Hoops had a good chance to equalise with five minutes remaining when persistence from Kavanagh saw him release Kelly into the box on the right and although he done well to make an angle for his shot the Shels 'keeper recovered to block his effort.
