Gary Twigg 50th competitive goal for Rovers tonight...
Pictures of game and celebrations here
Rovers claimed their first League title since 1994 at a packed Carlisle Grounds although a nervy performance had the Hoops faithful on edge until the final whistle...
The home side started brightly with Dempsey shooting wide from a free-kick in the opening minute. Matt Gregg was tested in the 10th minute but he claimed Stewart's header under pressure.
Massey headed over the bar from a corner in the 15th minute as Rovers struggled to get a foothold in the game and things got worse in the 20th minute when Shields through ball wasn't cleared by Rice and Kelly ran on to chip the ball over Mannus to score the opening goal.
Rovers responded with Bakers corner in the 24th minute falling for Dennehy but the Kerryman couldn't get a shot on goal. When Baker was fouled two minutes later Enda Stevens free-kick was met by Turner but he headed wide.
There was little in the way of chances until Dennehy's corner was well defended by Gregg in the 32nd minute and six minutes later Baker set-up Stewart to force a corner and Dennehy crossed for Price to hook the ball over the bar.
Rover were given a lifeline when O'Connor slipped trying to cut out Sives long ball and the irrepressible Gary Twigg ran into the box and rounded Gregg before slipping the ball through a defenders legs to score the all important equaliser for Rovers.
Right on the blow for half-time Pat Flynn sent Dessie Baker away down the right but his lob over Gregg went across goal and wide.
An incredible start to the second-half saw Stevens win possession for Twigg to lay the ball off for Stewart to coolly curl the ball past Gregg to give the Hoops the lead after only 13 seconds.
O'Kelly shot just wide for the Seasiders soon after but Rovers continued to press with Turner glancing his header wide from Dennehy's free-kick to the back post.
Rovers were on top but Mannus had to be alert to gather a long range effort and from a Turner free-kick Price headed down for Stewart but he couldn't get a shot on goal.
Criag Sives was booked as he conceded a free-kick on 58 minutes and Gary Dempsey's shot was inches wide of Alan Mannus's right hand post.
In the 62nd minute Bray forced three corners in a row but the Hoops defence stood firm.
The race for the title was wide open again when Richie Baker was involved in the build up that saw Shaw head past Mannus to level the score.
Aidan Price was then forced off due to injury and the remainder of the game saw Rovers do enough to prevent the home side from creating any real chances of note although deep into added-on time Alan Mannus comfortably gathered a shot from the edge of the area before the Hoops fans stormed the pitch on Alan Kelly's full-time whistle to at last celebrate the title for Rovers in what has been an incredible season.
