Gary Twigg On the double for Rovers...
The Hoops got back to winning ways in the league and went six points clear at the top of the table helped by two goals from Gary Twigg and a fine performance by James Chambers
Rovers started well with Fenn stretching to get to Stewart's headed ball in front of goal in the first minute and three minutes later a quick free-kick by Twigg sent Chambers raiding down the right and his cross to the near post saw Stewart just fail to guide the ball on target.
The Tribesmen hit back and on nine minutes a long ball from Meynell beat Price but Sheppard failed to connect with the ball in front of goal.
However the Hoops went ahead a minute later when Chambers found Fenn on the right in the area and his cross beat Geraghty and Gary Twigg pounced to guide the ball into the net.
The goal seemed to relax the home side but they threatened again on 22 minutes when an interchange of passes forced a corner and although the initial cross was cleared Turner fired over the bar from the clearance.
The Hoops doubled their lead on 26 minutes with a wonderful goal when Chambers broke down the right and his pinpoint pass to the left of the area saw Fenn hit a first time ball across goal and the irrepressible Twigg was on hand to score from close range.
The visitors kept trying and when Turner lost possession in midfield Sheppard ran at the Hoops defence but Mannus saved his shot.
Rovers got their third on 32 minutes when Bradley's corner to the back post saw the unmarked Sives power a header into the back of the net.
On 37 minutes a free-kick by Curran saw O'Brien get a touch on the ball but Mannus was well placed to save. The half ended with a fine save from Mannus from Curran's shot while at the other end Geraghty got down well to save Twigg's shot.
The second-half was only two minutes old when Bradley sent Twigg on a run into the box but he shot over the bar. Sheppard's header from close range on 51 minutes troubled Mannus but the ball was cleared.
On 58 minutes a Galway corner went across goal but Murphy was on hand at the back post to clear. Substitute Dessie Baker almost got on the end of a fine ball from Murphy on 62 minutes but Geraghty advanced to claim the ball.
Bradley then sent Murphy into the box on the right but his shot was blocked. Karl Sheppard tried his luck from 25 yards and Mannus couldn't hold the shot but done enough to push the ball over the bar.
Thomas Stewart went on a good run on 67 minutes down the left but his shot was blocked for a corner.
The visitors continued to push forward and Aidan Price made two good defensive headers in the 74th minute. On 82 minutes Enda Stevens was beaten to the ball by Keogh and Walsh tested Mannus with a first time shot but the Belfast man saved his effort.
Rovers held out comfortably in the end and although the visitors made a valiant effort to get on the scoresheet in the second-half they failed to score in any of the five meetings between the teams this season.
