Fine volley for Rovers opening goal...

Rovers almost snatched all the points from Morton Stadium when coming from behind to score twice in a five minute spell but ultimately they had to settle for a point as Finn’s late strike found the net.

A nice touch by Twigg on 3 minutes sent Kavanagh away on the left but his cross had Stewart stretching to connect and the ‘keeper got to the ball first. The home side got into the game when McFaul smashed a shot off the cross-bar on 9 minutes and two minutes later Zayed met Byrne’s cross at the back post to stoop to head past Mannus and give Fingal the lead.

James Chambers almost caught out Fingal ‘keeper Quigley with a quick strike from 30 yards but the ball just went wide. Alan Mannus saved a low drive from Kirby after 22 minutes.

A Chambers free-kick from the left saw Quigley make a comfortable save and on 33 minutes Chambers again fired in a free-kick from the right and O’Brien conceded a corner under pressure from Price.

Paddy Kavanagh floated in the corner for Criag Sives to execute a perfect volley and send the ball into the top of Quigley’s net.

Mannus saved a shot from Byrne on 39 minutes after he had skipped past Stevens challenge. Sives lost possession on 42 minutes but Murray got back to block Kirby’s shot.

The start of the second half saw Bayly shoot not too far wide and Twigg almost setup substitute Dennehy with a header. However the Hoops went behind in the 50th minute when Finn shot on goal and Mannus could only block his effort and the ball fell to O’Neill and he scored from close range.

Rovers tried hard to get back into the game but Zayed had a wonderful chance in the 62nd minute to extend the lead for the home side when he took O’Neill’s pass and shot past Mannus and fortunately just inches wide.

The heavens then opened and a torrential downpour made conditions very difficult for both Rovers players and fans but Gary Twigg was alert to take advantage of a mistake by Byrne and sprint towards goal before coolly sliding the ball past Quigley and into the corner of the net.

Things got better for Rovers just 4 minutes later when Sives shot was blocked and the ball fell for Stephen Rice to shoot off the greasy surface and past Quigley to give the Hoops the lead.

Mannus saved Browne’s header in the 81st minute as the home side went looking for the equaliser. With three minutes of normal time remaining the ball fell for Finn 25 yards out and his shot was too hot for Mannus to hold and the ball nestled in the Hoops net.

In added on time a Fingal free-kick from the right hand side fell to Browne in front of goal but he couldn’t keep his shot down and the ball went over the bar. Gary Twigg’s header from Dennehy’s cross in the dying seconds didn’t really trouble Quigley and both sides had to settle for a point.
