A brace of goals from Tadhg Purcell in the last 10 minutes after an opening first-half goal from Dessie Baker was enough to see off the challenge of Drogheda Utd in this Cup replay. The home side started well with Whelan shooting into the side-netting from eight yards out after the ball rebounded off Price.
Sean O'Connor had a shout for a penalty after he tumbled over following Twigg's nice through ball but the Ref. waved play on. Duffy then went on a run down the left and his cross was knocked to safety at the near post by Bermingham. The Hoops left-back then went on a good run on 20 minutes but saw Drogs 'keeper Skinner just push his shot away and from the resultant corner Gary Twigg fired over the bar.
Craig Sives almost got past the Drogs defence on 28 minutes but Clarke was on hand to clear however Purcell raced down the right hand side to pick-out Baker in the box and Dessie headed past Skinner to give Rovers the lead.
Purcell was seeing a lot of the ball and Skinner had to be alert to save his 25 yard shot. On 31 minutes after good work from Duffy earned the Drogs a corner, Conor Kenna missed the target with a header inside the area.
Pucell's high cross on 56 minutes saw Skinner push the ball over the bar and Kenna was then on hand to head clear O'Connor's inswinging corner. Barry Murphy raced from his line to head clear on 59 mniutes and as the game wore on the home side began to have a lot of the ball and the Hoops defence was put under pressure. Aiden Price and Corie Treacy made good defensive headers as the Drogs attacked but couldn't find a way through the Hoops defence.
Purcell was switched up front to allow substitute Robinson slip into midfield and with eight minutes remaining he lifted the pressure off the Hoops defence when he beat Ian Ryan to the ball on the left before turning the defender to plant the ball in the corner of the net.
There was no way back for the Boynesiders now and Purcell wrapped up a fine display just two minutes from time when he chased a long ball and shrugged off Kenna to volley past Skinner for the Hoops third.
