Hoops goalscorer Gary TwiggThe Hoops came back from a goal down to salvage a deserved point as Gary Twigg netted his third of the season with just seven minutes remaining. The game got off to a slow start with neither side able to take command of proceedings. Sean O'Connor's shot on seven mins failed to trouble the Cork 'keeper while at the other end some hesitancy from stand-in left full Ollie Cahilll let Behan attempt a strike on goal but Cahill did just enough to block his effort.
Stephen Rice was working hard in midfield but Rovers rarely threatened the Cork goal. However on 19 mins Gary Twigg turned on the edge of the box and his first time shot brought out a fine one-handed save from Connor in goal. On 26 mins a quick free kick from Rice found O'Connor inside the area but he slipped as he shot and a defender got across to block. Robert Duggan was called into action to push away Behan's stinging free-kick on 28 mins.
Robinson's header from Cahill's free-kick was easily saved by Connor after 31 mins. Baker's fine cross a minute later almost found the head of Daragh Maguire. Baker then went close on 40 mins when Twigg's header found him in space on the left but he shot narrowly wide from a tight angle under pressure. Treacy's fine cross just eluded Twigg before the break.
The second-halfcontinued on in the same manner as the first as both sides seemed to cancel out each other. Maguire made a fine intercepting header from a corner in the 50th minute before Baker and Treacy combined to find Robinson but he fired his shot highover the bar. A Cork corner in the 56th minute saw a glancing header go narrowly wide and two mins later Treacy lost possession in midfield and City's number 11 stormed forward but his shot was blasted over the bar.
The whistle-happy Referee awarded the visitors three free-kicks in a row and from the third kick Colin Healy stepped up to shoot over the Hoops defensive wall and past Duggan to give the Leesider's the lead.
Conceding the goal sparked Rovers into life and the introduction of Amond brought an extra dimension to the attack. Robinson's free-kick into the box on 69 mins saw Twigg try a shot but the ball fell to Maguire and his curling effort went just over.
The Hoops thought they had equalised on 73 mins when Robinson's cross was powerfully headed towards goal by Amond but Connor somehow got across to scoop the ball out from under the cross-bar.
Webb then headed over the bar from Robinson's corner three minutes later. Baker's flick on to Amondsaw the Carlow man turn well but his shot was well defended.
Cameron made way for Purcell as the Hoops threw everything into attack and on 83 mins they got the reward. Amond did well to chase a through ball and forced Connor to punch clear only for the ball to deflect to Twigg who shot low into the far corner of the net. The visitors kept the ball well in the remaining minutes but deep into added-on time the Hoops won a free-kick just outside the area but Robinson fired over the bar to let the Cork defence off the hook.
