A brilliant second-half performance saw the Hoops overcome a one goal deficit with goals from Captain Stephen Rice and a brace from the Hoops goal machine Gary Twigg.
The visitors were quick off the mark and following a couple of half-chances at either end they took the lead when a corner was flicked on at the near post and the ball was deflected to Webster who shot home from close range.
Rovers hit back straight away and a Chisholm corner saw Rice jump to head towards goal but Chris O’Connor in the Bray goal pushed the ball away. In the 21st minute Chisholm tried to play Amond in but the ball was cleared to Sullivan but his shot from just outside the box went over.
A Sullivan cross in the 27th minute was met by Amond’s overhead kick but his effort went just wide. On the half-hour a Sullivan corner caused a scramble in the box with Twigg getting a shot on goal that was cleared off the line.
Twigg turned well but shot over in the 32nd minute as the Hoops looked to get on level terms. Bray were dangerous from set-pieces and Mannus had to punch away a corner in the 35th minute. A couple of minutes later a great back-heel by Twigg found Amond on the right hand side of the six-yard area and he shot past O’Connor but a defender was on hand to clear.
Mannus got down low to save Coughlan’s shot before the Seagulls almost went two ahead in the 42nd minute when from another corner, Derek Pender flicked the ball just over the bar from close range.
The final chance of the half came from a long throw-in by Sullivan that saw the ball ping-pong around the Bray box before a Rovers boot managed to knock the ball agonisingly wide.
Rovers finally equalised in the 55th minute when Sullivan found substitute Sean O’Connor with a short corner and his cross was met at the back post by Rice and he shot low into the Bray net.
It was all Rovers now and O’Connor found Twigg in the box after 62 minutes but the Scotsman’s header just failed to find Bradley. However five minutes later O’Connor beat Pender down the left to cross for Twigg to head into the corner of the net from close range to give the Hoops the lead.
Rovers were almost caught napping immediately after the goal but an offside flag cut out the danger. The Hoops kept pressing and put the game beyond all doubt when Bradley skipped past the left-full to cross to the back post where O’Connor headed down to Twigg and the Hoops top goal scorer hooked his shot on the turn past O’Connor.
Rovers were comfortable for the remaining 16 minutes and substitute Barrett kept the Bray defence on their toes and he almost beat ‘keeper O’Connor to a through ball before firing a shot just wide in added-on time. He also set up Twigg for a shot on the edge of the area but the Scotsman’s curling shot went high and wide.
