ROVERS READY FOR DROGS
Following last week’s injury-free draw in Turner’s Cross against Cork City, Shamrock Rovers’ boss is looking forward to having an even stronger side out against Drogheda United.
Skipper Aidan Price and long-term casualty Paul Shiels remain out of action but both Danny O’Connor and Andy Myler are in the frame for the Hoops’ game against the Boynesiders.
“Aidan is back doing a bit of running,” Scully explains, “so he’s still some way from getting back into the team. But it looks a lot better for Danny and Andy, who both came on as subs in Cork. They got about 20 minutes each and have done a bit of training this week, so hopefully they’ll be okay for the Drogheda game. On the negative side there are doubts about Derek Pender, Tommy Barrett and Eric McGill.”
Last week: Cork City 0 Rovers 0
“I was delighted with the performance down in Cork,” says Scully. “It’s a reflection of the way we’ve been going lately. I wasn’t happy with the first few performances but in the last three weeks it’s been back to what we want.
“We were very unlucky not to win and we created the better chances in the game. I was very pleased that we were able to go down there with a young team and play well in front of a big crowd.”
This week: Rovers v Drogheda
“I want a really strong performance from the team,” says Scully. “We can play against the top sides, as we proved last Friday in Cork, and if we keep that up we can get three points against Drogheda.
“It’s another big game for us, because Drogheda are a good side with some very good players, but once we maintain the standards we’ve set in recent weeks I’d be very confident.”
