Rovers 1 - 3 Cork City
eircom National League
Sunday 17th October 1999
Morton Stadium k.o. 3:00 pm
It took Cork just seven minutes to get on the score sheet when Herrick fired home from the edge of the area. Billy Woods worked hard to create some openings as did Derek Treacy but there was little quality supply to the striking partnership of Cousins and new signing Graham Lawlor.
Cork started the second half as they did the first with a goal, this time Caulfield heading in from close range. Rovers introduced Colwell and Byrne and started to make some chances. Brian Byrne, Derek Treacy and Tony Cousins all had good opportunities to score in what was Rovers best spell of the game. But all hope was lost when on 75 minutes Morley broke clear and chipped the ball over the advancing Horgan from 25 yards for a fine goal.
Billy Woods scored Rovers consolation goal 8 minutes from time from the penalty spot after a handball in the area. The Hoops almost got another one just three minutes later but Treacy couldn't slot the ball past Mooney. Ex-Rovers player Liam O'Brien had a great game for the Leesiders.
