Tolka Park - Saturday 27th Oct 2007
---------------------------------------
A point each on a blustery night in Tolka Park ensured a finish of at least fifth in the league for the Hoops but this was a game with plenty of effort but few chances. The Hoops could have been ahead after just 90 seconds as Sligo 'keeper Brush dropped a Tyrell free-kick but O'Connor poked the ball just wide from close range. Sligo hit back and went close with a header on eight minutes.
Dave Cassidy was playing well in his normal role down the right and he linked well with O'Connor on 27 minutes but Brush just beat him to the return ball in front of goal. A decent cross from Cassidy on 29 minutes forced a good defensive header. The visitors had a good chance on 33 minutes when Hughes headed over from close range from a free-kick.
Ger O'Brien had a fine first period and he continued to push forward at the start of the second half sending the ball across goal with Myler stretching but failing to meet the ball at the back post. Cassidy then found Shields in a good position after 51 minutes but his first touch was poor and the chance was lost.
Sligo's Cretaro got in behind Clarke on 56 minutes but his low cross into the area went behind his strikers. Tadhg Purcell entered the fray on 57 minutes and almost immediately rose to meet O'Briens cross but his header was off-target. On 65 minutes Brush dropped another cross but Rowes snap shot was blocked as it headed for goal.
Rowe and Cassidy linked up well on 70 minutes but couldn't get through the visitors defence. The Hoops exerted some late pressure on 83 minutes but couldn't take advantage of a corner and a cross from sub Mulhall. A good move in the 86th minute saw Clarke sending in a cross that was cleared for a corner. Keeper Brush atoned somewhat for his earlier mistakes when taking a fine cross from Tyrell under pressure from Purcell in the 88th minute.
