******* Eircom League Premier Division ******* ---------------------------------------- On an extremely windy night in Tolka Park the Referee was forced to abandon the game after 52 minutes after his attention was drawn to a floodlight pylon that was swaying dangerously. While the decision was met with extreme disappointment initially there can be no doubts that the Ref. acted in the interest of safety. The Hoops were shocked after only 4 minutes when Sullivan stole in behind the Hoops defence after a free-kick had been initially cleared to knock the ball past a helpless Murphy. There was strong calls for offside the linesman kept his flag down. The bad weather conditions didn't help the game and Rovers struggled to create chances. However a corner in the 32nd minute was met at the back post by Danny O'Connor and his looping header to the far post saw keeper Delaney and a defender get in each others way and the ball nestled in the net. After the game both managers agreed during Radio interviews that the Ref. had no choice but to call off the game. Pat Scully thanked the Ref. for ending what he described as a dreadful performance by the Hoops. He also refused to blame the weather for the display.
