The Hoops had to settle for a point in Donegal and only for a fantastic save by Barry Murphy in the 88th minute would have left empty-handed. The start of the game was fairly uneventful save for a couple of half-chances that fell to Padraig Amond in the opening 15 minutes. Rice send a deep cross into the area on 28 minutes but Tyrell volleyed over the bar. Purcell shot wide from distance a minute later. The best chance fell to Amond in the 31st minute when he broke free of the Harps defence and bore down on goal. However goalkeeper Cullen emerged from his goal to push away Amonds shot for a corner. Purcell had a headed goal ruled out for offside after 36 minutes. A Tyrell free-kick on 40 minutes found Maguire in the area but his header was straight at Cullen. Harps had their only chance of the half in the last minute when Parkhouse headed wide when well placed. If Padraig Amond had been guily in the first half of spurning an opportunity he made amends just three minutes into the second period when he latched on to McGills fine pass to race into the box and turned a defender before slipping the ball under the advancing 'keeper. Amond almost got in again three minutes later but the 'keeper was first to the ball to clear. Stephen Rice returned the ball back towards goal but a defender was on hand to head away. Rovers fans were concerned to see Aiden Price limp off the pitch on the hour to be replaced by Danny O'Connor. Maguire was on hand to clear a dangerous cross before Harps got back into the game on 61 minutes when Gethins fired home the equaliser from just inside the area after some good build up play. The home side were on top now and Murphy held a good low shot in the 68th minute and Maguire again was well placed to clear a low cross into the six-yard box. Substitute Alan Murphy shot just over the bar on 77 minutes from Doyle's knock-down. As the game entered the last 10 minutes Daragh Maguire made a vital block to thwart a Harps attack. The home side then had a header just over the bar from a corner. Rovers almost snatched a goal on 86 minutes when a Murphy corner was attacked by Doyle and O'Connor and the ball headed for goal but a Harps defender was on hand to clear. Then came Barry Murphys fantastic one-handed save to push away a goal bound long-range shot. Gethins volleyed over from the edge of the area in added-on time. The final action came when Ger O'Brien floated a free-kick into the Harps area but the ball was cleared despite Maguires pressure on the home defence. |
