![]() Shamrock Rovers Club Promotions Officer, Paddy Mc Quaid, visits schools and junior football clubs all over Tallaght and the wider South Dublin area spreading the club’s football message and showing children and teenagers the benefits of playing the beautiful game. The CPO scheme is run in association with the FAI, and aims to spread valuable social messages to school-children, through football. There are 42 schools and 38 football clubs in the greater Tallaght area and Paddy and his community team have already built up strong relationships with many of these schools. And they intend to visit even more in the coming season to coach the students, tell them all about Shamrock Rovers and the League of Ireland and become the cornerstone of football in the area. Paddy works closely with the FAI’s Development Officer for Tallaght, Jim Crawford. Community Activities![]() One of the highlights of Shamrock Rovers Football in the Community programme of 2008 was a 7-a-side competition involving all the secondary schools in Tallaght. This event was generously sponsored by Citywest Shopping Centre. This competition was a great day out for all the young people involved. The club also held numerous Soccer Superstar Challenge contests in 2008, taking part in family days in South Dublin. A similar event was also held in Citywest Shopping Centre. In 2009 the FAI have made €210,000 available to Premier Division clubs to employ Club Promotion Officers to expand the clubs role in the community, to boost attendances, interest in the game, links with schools and other clubs in the catchment areas. |
